Toyota GR 86 2022, A New Engine
The Toyota GR 86 2022 was designed in conjunction with the Subaru BRZ, with which it shares many similarities. Among the new elements of its design are:
18-inch wheels
Four ventilated brakes
A more rigid chassis
Most importantly, the Toyota sports car gets a new engine: a 2.4L 4-cylinder that develops 228 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 184 lb-ft of torque. Acceleration is also improved, with the car going from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds.
"Toyota has just refreshed its sports car [...] and it isn't just good, it's great."
David Beard, Car and Driver
The engine can be paired with a standard 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The Corolla, New GR Model
If you're hesitating between the reliability of a Corolla and the sportiness of a GR, you're in luck. The new Corolla GR features a 1.6L turbocharged 3-cylinder engine that produces an impressive 300 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque.
While the GR 86 is equipped with rear-wheel drive, the Corolla will offer all-wheel drive! The 2023 model will be available in two versions (Core and Circuit) and should arrive on our roads in 2022.
